ASIAN JUNIOR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP AND

ASIAN JUNIOR( GIRLS) CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

The Macau Chess Federation, GXM , very warmly and very cordially invites you to participate in the FIDE Asian Junior Chess Championship and the Asian Junior (Girls) Chess Championship to be held in Macau from the 12th August, 1996 (ARRIVAL) to 27th August, 1996 (DEPARTURE).

1. GENERAL CONDITIONS

1.1 Rules and Regulations:

Both Championships will follow the Rules and Regulations of Chess as outlined in the FIDE handbook.

1.2 Chief Arbiter and his Assistants:

The Chief Arbiter, his Deputy and Assistants will be appointed after consultations with the FIDE Deputy President (ASIA), Mr. Khalifa Mohammed Al Hitmi.

1.3 Appeals Committee:

An Appeals Committee shall be selected before the beginning of the two tournaments as stipulated in the regulations.

1.4 Entry Fee:

Each participating Federation shall pay to FIDE the stipulated entry fee as outlined in the Financial Regulations upon confirmation of entry.

1.5 Visas:

Entry Visas into Macau for all participating players/officials/coaches and accompanying persons shall be issued by the Immigration Department of Macau upon arrival in Macau. Please, complete and return to us the enclosed registration forms with all the passport details together with the passport details of the rest of your entourage for us to assist you in processing the visas in advance.

1.6 Currency:

The currency used in Macau is the Macau Pataca. The US dollar is generally accepted. The current rate of exchange is approximately Patacas 7.98 to US $ 1.00. The Hongkong dollar circulates freely in Macau and the current rate of exchange is approximately 1.033 Patacas to 1.00 Hongkong dollar.

1.7 Registration Forms:

The necessary registration forms are enclosed with the invitation letter to your federation. All federations are requested to fill in the enclosed registration forms and return them to the Organizing Committee not later than 12/6/1996.

2. HOTEL ACCOMMODATION

2.1 Players

Players will be accommodated in twin shared bedrooms (2 people per room).

The Organizing Committee will bear all the accommodation and alimentation expenses for all the players which includes full board and three daily meals i.e. buffet Breakfast, buffet Lunch and buffet Dinner.

For those federations which might prefer to accommodate their players in single rooms, the rate charged will be US $ 45.00 per room per day. The Organizing Committee will, however, still bear all the food costs.

2.2 Delegates, Coaches and Accompanying Persons:

The rates for delegates, coaches and accompanying persons will be US $ 50.00 per day in a twin shared bedroom (2 people per room). This rate includes full board and three daily meals i.e. buffet Breakfast, buffet Lunch and buffet Dinner.

For those who prefer to book single rooms, the rate will be US $ 85.00 including full board and three daily meals as above.

3. SPECIFIC CONDITIONS

3.1 Participation and Eligibility:

(i)- Each federation from Zones 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 shall be represented by one player in each of the two tournaments. The players who are entitled to participate should not have reached their 20th birthday by January 1st of this year, 1996.

(ii)- The players placed 1-3 in the previous Championships and the current Asian Under-18 and Under-16 champions will have a personal right to participate in the tournament if they fulfil condition (i)- above.

3.2 Tournament Format and Time Control:

11 Round Swiss.

The first session of play shall be 6 hours, with two time controls: 40 moves in the first two hours and 20 moves in the third hour (with accumulation of time before adjournment). The time control for resumed unfinished games shall be 20 moves per hour.

3.3 Prizes:

Prizes shall be awarded to the top 10 participants in the Asian Junior Championship and the top 6 in the Asian Junior Girls Championship. In addition gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top 3 winners in each event.

(iv)- Flight Information.

4. HOW TO COME TO MACAU:

Macau has an International Airport with direct flights from Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, P. R . China, Singapore and Seoul. Attached herein is a weekly schedule of flights to Macau (this schedule is subject to revision so please confirm with your travel agent).

We will provide free transportation from the Airport to the Hotel.

In case you decide to come through the Hongkong Airport, we advise you that we can only provide free transportation from the Macau Ferry Terminal to the Hotel. So, we suggest as follows: that you take the Airport Bus from Kai Tak (Hongkong) Airport to the Hongkong to Macau Ferry Terminal, this will cost you about HK $ 17.00 ( about US $ 2.00). Then get a ticket for the Ferry to Macau which will cost you about HK $160.00 (about US$ 20.00). In addition you will need to get a transit visa through Hongkong which can in most cases be obtained on arrival in Hongkong except for a few passport holders who need to apply for this in advance. Contact your nearest British Consulate in case you plan to pass through Hongkong and you need to apply for this visa in advance.
